Emboldened by its massive victory in West Bengal, the Trinamool Congress is now planning to expand to various states and become a national party. As part of this, CM Mamta Banerjeeâs nephew Abhishek Banerjee has been appointed the national general secretary of the party. He is planning to come out with an action plan to expand into several states.
Abhishek Banerjee said that the TMC leadership had got over one lakh letters and e mails from various places in the country requesting to set up TMC local units. The party leaders will reach out to all these areas. But, the immediate focus would be on neighbouring states like Bihar, Odisha, Sikkim and North East. In fact, TMC has considerable presence in Tripura, but the unit had later merged into the BJP. So, TMC will try to revive these defunct units. Later, the party will expand to other states with significant Bengali presence.
The Trinamool is also planning measures to take the BJP head-on by 2024. While Mamta Banerjee will hold the fort in Kolkata, Abhishek will try to expand the party elsewhere in the country. Sources said that the TMC is also in talks with other regional parties to build up an anti-BJP coalition.
