Update: 2015-10-02 09:09 GMT
A Man sneaked into the Delhi Metro with a gun and shot himself at the Rajiv Chowk station on Thursday night. This incident should be seen as a major security lapse.

Shibesh Adhikari, a resident of Fatehpur in Uttar Pradesh, carried a country-made pistol which couldn't be detected during the security checks. He got down from the Metro at Rajiv Chowk and shot himself near the ticket counter at the Platform No. 3. He was taken to a nearby hospital and his condition is stable now.

CISF which is taking care of the security arrangements of Delhi Metro is closely observing the CCTV footage to confirm the sequence of events.

Mr. Adhikari's Father has been recouping at Apollo Hospital after a bypass surgery. An inquiry has been ordered to look into the security lapse and find out why Adhikari shot himself.

Nearly 4,000 CISF personnel have been deployed at 180 stations of the Delhi Metro which carry 3 million commuters daily.
