There is disquiet within the TRS over the political moves of Minister Puvvada Ajay. His plans to bring in his wife Vasantha Lakshmi as the Mayor of Khammam are not being taken kindly by the TRS leaders in Khammam city.
Several TRS leaders have been working for years for the coveted position of the mayor. But, with Ajay, whose proximity to KCR and KTR is well-known, jumping into the fray, they are all disappointed. It is being said that he had already got approval from the TRS top leadership about his wife. Hence the local leaders feel that their chances of becoming a mayor are very bleak now. Several women leaders of the party are unhappy at this. However, they are unable to open up as Puvvada Ajay is quite powerful in the party echelons.
Meanwhile, Ajay got his wife's nomination papers filed on Saturday. The papers were filed on her behalf by local party workers and Vasantha Lakshmi was absent in Khammam. Sources say that Ajay has already planned his strategy to ensure a safe victory for her. Ward No 20, from where Vasantha Lakshmi fined her nomination papers, is considered Ajay's personal fiefdom. Hence, her victory appears to be a foregone conclusion.
