MLC Election Counting Today, Results Only on March 21

Update: 2021-03-17 04:16 GMT
If you thought that the Graduate MLC elections counting would be over much in the way the MLA election votes are counted, think again. The counting would by all means begin from 8 AM on March 17, but the result could be expected only after March 21. That is, it could take as long as four days for the results to be announced.

Unlike the MLA elections, the votes are counted as per the preferential voting system. Initially, the first preference votes of the voters would be counted. If there is no conclusive winner, then the second preference votes that the candidate with least number of votes are taken up for counting. This process would be repeated by choosing one least vote-polling candidate after another. This process of eliminating the candidate polling least number of votes will go on till a candidate gets up to 50 per cent votes.

The ballot papers would be stacked first in bundles of 25 each. Then invalid votes would be sifted and removed. It is only after all these processes that the actual counting would begin. The real counting is likely to begin only after 4 PM. The counting for Hyderabad-Rangareddy-Mahabubnagar constituency will  be taken up at the Saroornagar indoor stadium, while the counting for the Warangal-Nalgonda-Khammam seat would be taken up at the State Warehousing Corporation godown in Nalgonda
