Modi Finally Bails Out Uddhav Thackeray

Update: 2020-05-02 04:33 GMT
Finally Maharashtra CM Uddhav Thackeray can breathe easy. The Election Commission has expressed willingness to conduct elections to the Maharashtra legislative council on May 21, a good seven days before the deadline of May 28. Uddhav has to get elected to the council by May 28 to avoid resignation from CM’s post.

An anxious Udhav had even called up PM Narendra Modi seeking his intervention. Uddhav was worried that governor Bhagat Singh Koshiyari was not willing to nominate Uddhav to the council. Due to the corona lockdown, there were doubts about how to conduct elections to the vacancies in the council. However, putting a lid on all speculations, Governor Koshiyari asked the election commission to explore the possibility of holding elections to the council and the commission has readily agreed to conduct the elections. Now, notification would be issued on May 4 and the polling would be held on May 21. The results would be announced on the same evening.

With all these, the Shiv Sena boss can relax now. He is now sure to get elected before the deadline and will keep the post of Chief Minister. The whole problem arose as Uddhav is not a member of any house in Maharashtra. Though there are vacancies in the council, there were doubts about conducting the elections due to the lockdown. But, thanks to Modi’s intervention, decks are now cleared for Uddhav to get elected.
