Congress spokesperson Manish Tewari termed the Government's move to scrap Rs 500 and Rs 1000 currency notes as a nuclear trident at poor people of India. He went on to describe Narendra Modi as a modern day Tughlak.

Quoting that Mohd Bin Tughlak too had scrapped Rs 500 & Rs 1000, Manish Tewari questioned if Modi's next move would be to shift capital from Delhi to Daulatabad. 'Tughlak's spirit resurrects. Rs 1,000 of Today is what Rs 100 20 years ago. Insanity!,' he comments.

Manish Tewari said 65% of Indian population are dependent on Agriculture which are non-taxed. He stated majority of the country's population have no access to the banking facilities.

Mohammed bin Tughlak who ruled India faced the wrath of people with decisions like abolishing higher denomination notes and shift of capital from Delhi to Daulatabad in South India.
