Prime Minister Narendra Modi proposed the idea of Jamili Elections, which means conducting of Lok Sabha and Assembly Polls for all states at once. He believed this measure is going to save thousands of crores spent as election expenditure. Even Election Commission has given its consent to hold Parliament and Assembly Polls simultaneously from October 2018.
However, Narendra Modi seems to have withdraw the proposal of 'One Nation-One Election' in 2019 post the criticism over poor implementation of Demonetisation and GST. Implementation of Jamili Elections has been delayed till 2024.
Even Few States were opposing the concept of conducting elections all over the Nation at once. Centre require enough time to convince those State Government for one of the biggest election reform.
Speculations about early polls in 2018 end have been put to rest now. General Elections will only happen in April & May 2019.
