Modi Visit To Vijayawada In 1992: Now And Then

Prime Minsiter Narendra Modi visited AP'S proposed capital Amaravati and laid foundation stone in a grand gala event. But many people not aware that this is his second visit to the Vijayawada city. Modi visited the city in 1992 as the party's general secretary and he even visited famous Durgamma temple.

Modi was largely unknown even within the party at that time. Modi had taken a break at Vijayawada railway station on his way to Konark in Odisha to attend a BJP meeting in 1992. Modi got down at Vijayawada en route to Konark to attend BJP meetings.

Vijayawada office of the BJP ignored his arrival, though the matter was informed well in advance. One of the Party leader Pilla Ravikrishna made  arrangements for Modi for Goddess Kanakadurga's darshan at the Vijayawada temple atop Indrakeeladri.

Harikrishna received Modi at the railway station, where he had lunch. Later, both went and had a darshan of the Goddess. The two of them took photos on the hills and Harikrishna later dropped Modi at the station.

Harikrishna went nostalgia revealing the old moments and said that Modi was an ordinary party worker then, but now he is heading the nation. His first visit was a low key affair and none knew about him but when Modi visited the city a second time it was a national event.
