Prime Minister Narendra Modi washed the feet of five sanitary workers, including two women, to show his gratitude for maintaining cleanliness at the Kumbh Mela. The Sanitary Workers are identified as Naresh Kumar, Pyare Lal, Chaubi, Hori Lal and Jyoti.
Pyare Lal shared his feeling after the expected gesture from PM: 'They informed that we will be honoured for our service. We were speechless when PM approached us and spoke to us. He washed and wiped our feet. Apart from felicitating us with Angavastram, He enquired about the problems we are facing while working at Kumbh'.
Modi appreciated Sanitary Workers, Policemen, Firemen and all those who contributed in making Kumbh Mela safe, secure and clean as 'Karma Yogis'. He claimed to have never seen such a clean Ganga.
PM promised to set up 'Swachhta Sewa Samman Kosh' for providing immediate financial assistance to the families of Sanitary Workers.
