RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat's statement seeking a review of the country Reservation Policy has stirred a controversy. Stating that Reservations have been used for political ends by parties, He suggested constituting an apolitical committee to examine which section of people are in need of the Reservation and the time period it should be implemented.
Former Bihar CM Lalu Prasad Yadav challenged BJP and RSS to end reservations. He states 80% of India's population comprise Dalits and Backward Classes. He accused RSS of ending Reservation while his party has been fighting for increasing it based on the population.
BJP, however, distanced itself from the remarks of RSS Chief. The Saffron Party claimed it believes Reservations are necessary for social and economic development of SC, ST, BC and Other Backward Classes. It made it clear there are no plans to reconsider these constitutional provisions.
