MOM Sends First Pictures of MARS

In a media statement ISRO released first pictures of India's Mars Orbiter spacecraft which took on Mars late on Wednesday night. ISRO chairmen Radha Krishnan had gifted the photos of mars to Modi in a personal meet today morning.

"1st image of Mars, from a height of 7300km; with 376m spatial resolution. MT @MarsOrbiter. The view is nice up here," ISRO said today in a tweet posted along with snaps of the red planet. ISRO confirmed that , It had received total five pictures till now and said those are in review status. Earlier on Wednesday, India created history by becoming the first country to succeed on its first Mars mission.

As per ISRO information the spacecraft is now circling the red planet in an orbit whose nearest point to Mars is at 421.7km. MOM aimed to study the Martian surface and mineral composition and scan its atmosphere for methane, an indicator of life.
