Update: 2014-03-31 12:57 GMT
As speculated earlier Senior Congress leader and Member of Parliament from Guntur in Andhra Pradesh, Rayapati Sambasiva Rao, along with his brother Rayapati Srinivas, and their followers, formally joined the Telugu Desam Party today.

While speaking with reporters Sambasiva Rao told reporters that the development of Seemandhra was possible only under the rule of TDP.

He was one of the six MPs from Seemandhra who were expelled by the Congress last month for stalling the Telangana bill in Lok Sabha. He further said that he will strengthen TDP and ensure that it wins all the 17 Assembly and three Lok Sabha seats from the district.

Rayapati Samba Siva Rao is expected to contest for Narasaraopeta Parliamentary constituency from Telugu Desam Party. Rayapati is in Congress for more than 30 years and is a 5 time MP. Rayapati belongs to Kamma community and he played a crucial role in blocking Kammas’ support to Telugu Desam Party in the district.TDP trying to fold Rayapati from many years but due to his loyality on Gandhi family Rayapati sticks to Congress.

This move is expected to polarize Kamma votes for Telugu Desam totally in Guntur district and it will be a death blow for congress on the district
