Nadda's public meeting in Munugode canceled: BJP on the defensive?

Update: 2022-10-28 12:41 GMT
It is now emerging that the BJP's plans to hold a massive public meeting in Munugode may not fructify. The meeting, which was to be addressed by the party's national president JP Nadda, has been cancelled. The meeting is scheduled on October 31. Now that it is cancelled, the meeting may not be held later as the campaign will end on November 1.

Now this is being seen as a big shocker to the BJP, which is already embroiled in the Farmhouse scandal. It is already facing allegations that it had offered huge amounts to buy the loyalty of the TRS MLAs. The public meeting would have offered an opportunity to the BJP to put forth its point of view. However, with the cancellation of the meeting, the party has forfeited the opportunity.

Political analysts say that cancellation of the public meeting at this juncture will send the wrong signals. It could be interpreted that the BJP is afraid of facing the voters on the issue of luring away the TRS MLAs. The ruling TRS is all set to use this opportunity and launch an attack on the BJP. The BJP will not be in a position to reply back, say the analysts.

The campaign in Munugode will come to an end on November 1 and the polling will be held on November 3. The BJP has fielded former MP and MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy as its candidate, while the TRS has fielded former MLA Kusukuntla Prabhakar Reddy. The Congress has given the ticket to Palwai Sravanthi, who has unsuccessfully contested in the 2014 elections.
