Modi, Ambani, Pichai among Time 'Person of the Year' Race

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, India's richest person and Reliance Industries Chairman Mukesh Ambani and India-born Google's CEO Sundar Pichai are among over 50  contenders by Time magazine for its annual 'Person of the Year' honour.

Person of the Year is an annual issue of the United States news magazine Time that features and profiles a person, "for better or for worse...has done the most to influence the events of the year".The Time Person of the Year 2015 will be announced next month

Time said Modi has encouraged foreign direct investment in India and is trying to modernise the worlds largest democracy.Modi was a contender for the honour last year also and while he was not chosen the Person of the Year by Time editors.

Time asked its readers to vote for the individual who they think should get the title of Person of the Year . The other candidates in the fray for the Person of the Year title include presidents of USA, French and China.ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, Pakistani Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala, Tesla head Elon Musk, Apple CEO Tim Cook were among others.Narendra Modi has so far got 1.3 per cent of the votes, the same as Google CEO Sundar Pichai and Russian President Vladimir Putin . Ambani has garnered a mere 0.2 per cent of the votes cast.
