The central government is working on a new scheme targeting those who are facing severe difficulties due to coronavirus lockdown. The finance minister of India, Nirmala Sitharaman said that PM Narendra Modi will be launching a new scheme, 'Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan' On June 20.
This scheme is to empower and provide livelihood opportunities to the returnee migrant workers and rural citizens.
The scheme will be implemented in 116 districts in 6 states and about 25 schemes will be provided under one roof of Garib Kalyan Rojgar Abhiyaan.
The campaign will be spread across 125 days and Rs 50,000 crores will be spent on this. The scheme will be implemented in Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Jharkhand and Odisha states.
The scheme will be a coordinated effort by 12 different ministries, including rural development, panchayat raj, road transport and highways, mines, drinking water and sanitation, environment, railways, petroleum and natural gas, new and renewable energy, border roads, telecom and agriculture.
"The Abhiyan provides a clear blueprint to engage the workers for the next 4 months, we will see how many of them will want to continue or go away in search of jobs elsewhere after this period," said FM Nirmala Sitharaman.
