Centre to end LPG Subsidy

Union Government has decided to end subsidy on cooking gas (LPG) by March 2018. Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan declared State-Run Oil Companies have been ordered to increase Rs 4 per cylinder every month with the sole intention to end subsidy by the end of next financial year.

In the past, Centre directed Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum and Hindustan Petroleum to increase the rates of LPG cylinder (14.2 kg) by Rs 2 per month (excluding VAT). But now, The increase in the price has been doubled to meet the target in the given time.

12 LPG Cylinders of 14.2 kg each can be used by every Household at subsidised rates in a calendar year. Anything more than that shall be purchased at market price.

The decision of Centre to end LPG Subsidy is going to have a huge impact on the poor and middle class. How would State Governments handle the price hike?
