Elections to Telugu Association of North America, popularly known as TANA, are turning out to be a huge affair. They are reminding the people of Assembly or Lok Sabha elections. The campaign is in full swing and the candidates are going from place to place to hold "meet and greet" programmes to woo the voters.
Dr Naren Kodali team, which is backed by former president Komati Jayaram, has been conducting programmes in places like Bay Area, where the Telugu people live in considerable numbers. Key candidates like Jagadish Prabhala, Sunil Pantra, Raja Surapaneni, Venkat Kogandi and Rajanikanth Kakarla appealed to the voters to vote for them. The meet and greet programme was followed by a special feast called "Akhanda" Vindu. This feast was named after Nandamuri Balakrishna's under-production movie. Some 28 dishes were prepared and served.
But, what was disconcerting was that no one followed Covid norms. Balakrishna fans, who were present in large numbers, created quite a ruckus. There were no Covid precautions during the buffet. The rival panellist too is planning to hold a similar feast soon.
