National Anthem mandatory before Film Screening

Supreme Court Today passed an order directing theatres all over the country to play National Anthem prior to the start of the film screening. It also want everyone present  in the cinema halls to stand up during National Anthem as a mark of respect.

The Apex Court wants National Flag to appear on the screen when the National Anthem is played. Justice Dipak Misra and Amitava Roy opined even citizen must feel this is my country and this is my motherland. The Bench also maintained that no individual is allowed to take commercial benefits by playing National Anthem. It further said, 'Neither the Anthem be dramatized nor it should be printed on undesirable objects. It can't be played at variety shows'.

SC asked Centre to implement its order within a week's time by alerting all the States and Union Territories through chief secretaries.  Specific directions were given to show the order in electronic and print media.

Supreme Court given these directions during the hearing of a PIL filed by Shyam Narayan Chouksey seeking orders to play National Anthem in all the cinema halls.
