Nearly 50% Of LS MPs Have Criminal Records

Almost 50 percent of the newly elected MPs have criminal records. That's about 44 percent increase when compared to the 2009 Elections Result. While 30 percent of winners (76) declared criminal cases in 2009, 34 percent winners (112) had criminal records in 2014.

In 2019, About 233 out of 539 MPs (43 percent) had declared criminal cases against them in the election affidavit. 29 percent of them (159 MPs) face serious criminal charges. BJP Candidate Pragya Thakur who was an accused in 2006 Malegaon Blast Case was elected as Bhopal MP. Several other Winners have been facing serious criminal charges.

Shockingly, Congress MP Dean Kuriakose who represents Idukki Constituency in Kerala is facing 204 criminal cases.   

While 10 MPs mentioned about the convicting in criminal cases, 11 MPs have been facing murder charges and 30 MPs are booked for attempt to murder. 19 MPs face charges of harassing Women.

About 116 (39 percent) out of 303 BJP MPs declared criminal cases. 29 (57 percent) out of 51 Congress MPs face criminal charges.
