New Year Parties: Telangana High Court Question The State Government

Update: 2020-12-31 09:44 GMT
Following the fear created by the new strain of Coronavirus many states in India have reacted quickly and imposed a ban on New Year celebrations and warned the people to not violate the rules.

Despite many states taking steps in this regard, media reports claimed that several events are going to be held in Telangana in various pubs and bars, and Restaurants for New Year.

Taking these media reports on New Year events as suo moto cognizance, the Telangana High Court questioned the state government why these events are not banned and asked why these events were permitted.

The court asked when the states like Rajasthan and Maharashtra banned the New Year events and parties, why the government has to allow the bars and pubs for late-night parties.

The High Court issued directives to the Telangana government to arrange tight security as a safety measure given the New Year celebrations and even asked the government to submit a detailed report on the celebrations on the 7th of January.

However, during the arguments, the lawyer who represented the Telangana government told the High Court that a ban on New Year celebrations has been imposed.
