7.8 Magnitude Earthquake, Tsunami alert issued!

A 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit New Zealand's South Island on Sunday. The epicenter was located at 50 kilometer from Christchurch. A Tsunami alert was issued immediately after the wrong quake.

Two People got killed due to this natural disaster so far. A 100-Year-Old Woman and her Daughter-in-Law was safely rescued after the collapse of their house. However, The Son of the aged woman died in the incident which took place at Kaikoura. Media reports confirm the death of a woman at Mount Lyford.

Hundreds of aftershocks have been reported after the first quake. This resulted in power failures and halt in the water supply. Experts say, The aftershocks would continue for months.

Main Roads have been blocked due to landslides. Military and Fire Service Personnel are in action to rescue people. People in affected areas are evacuated. Residents of Christchurch have rushed to the nearby stores to get abundant basic supplies.

This is the strongest quake to have hit New Zealand after 7.8 magnitude quake in 2009.  About 185 people were killed due to 2011 earthquake in Christchurch.
