The toxic gas leakage that happened at the early hours of the Friday in the VV Venkatapuram in Visakhapatnam has resulted in the deaths of eight people including two minors.
Around 200 people were hospitalized and 2,000 people were directly exposed to the toxic gas. As a result, people who live within a 2 km radius of the chemical plant were evacuated accordingly.
Following this, the National Green Tribunal directed the LG Polymers India Pvt to submit Rs 50 crore for an interim amount for damage to life.
A five member Committee was constituted, which is headed by NGT Chairperson Justice Adarsh Kumar Goel that comprises justice B Seshasayana Reddy to probe into the incident which will submit its report on the 18th of May.
