Keeping his poll promise given to the women, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Thursday announced prohibition on liquor will come into effect in the state from April 1st next year. This is Nitish's first big announcement after swearing-in as Chief Minister of the backward state for the fifth time.
Nitish Kumar stressed the need to introduce new policies to ban liquor in Bihar. The CM said he wants the money spent on alcohol to be diverted for education and women empowerment for development of the state.
Showing praises on women in his state for starting anti-liquor campaign, Nitish Kumar declared people in villages will be awarded if they help the State Government in completely eradicating alcohol consumption. He pledged to take stern action on the illegal liquor sales after April next year.
Gujarat was the first state in the country to implement prohibition on liquor in 1958. Even NTR implemented it for a period of time. Even till Today, Sale and Consumption of liquor is banned in Gujarat, Manipur and Nagaland.
