Putting a full stop to the long waiting of the political parties and observers in Telangana, the Election Commission had released the by-election schedule for the much-awaited Huzurabad election. The schedule was announced by the Commission on Tuesday.
As per the schedule, the notification will be issued on October 1st and the candidates can file their nomination till the 8th of October. The filed nominations would be scrutinized by the officers on October 11, while the limit to withdraw the nominations will be till October 13.
The date of the election was fixed as October 30. The polled votes will be counted on November 2 and the result would be announced on the same day. The election would be a face-off of key parties in the state.
As a big disappointment for the political parties, the election commission had imposed a few restrictions on the campaign size of the political outfits keeping the ongoing Coronavirus fear in mind and the parties were directed to follow the restrictions.
The Election Commission said that the parties should keep their campaign activities under the Covid protocols. No roadshows and rallies were permitted by the Chief election body and for the campaign programs, the crowd should not be more than 1,000.
The by-election in the Huzurabad Assembly constituency in Telangana became inevitable with a former MLA and ex-member of the Telangana Cabinet Etela Rajender resigning from his post due to his fallout with the Telangana government. He had joined the Telangana wing of BJP.
Etela Rajender, a senior member in the ruling TRS, who has been with the party since the Telangana agitation movement had resigned from his post after he was stripped from his Cabinet post owing to the alleged land grabbing allegations he faced. Following the episode, he had joined the BJP.
The Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) is projecting Etela Rajender as its candidate for the by-election as he served as the MLA from the constituency. On the other hand, the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi(TRS) had announced TRS student wing chief Gellu Srinivas Yadav as its candidate. Congress is yet to announce the candidate. It is said that the party is unable to fix a credible candidate.
