Itâs now official! There is no Opposition to KCR in Telangana. The largest opposition, the Congress Party, has lost its official Opposition status. Though it has won 19 MLA seats to qualify as the Opposition Party, its numbers plummeted to just five in the last six months, 12 of the 19 MLAs have joined the TRS and the number was reduced to just seven. Of these, PCC chief Uttam Kumar Reddy, who won as an MP, has resigned his MLA seat. This brought the Congress number to six. Now, with Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy joining the BJP, the party is left with just five seats. So, the party is not entitled to official Opposition status and its leader Malli Bhatti Vikamarka has lost his position of the Leader of the Opposition.
In fact, with seven MLAs, MIM is the second largest party in the state after the ruling TRS. MIM being friendly with the TRS, can never play the role of Opposition. The BJP has just one MLA and is no match for the ruling TRS. Thus KCR virtually has no opposition whatsoever in Telangana today.
The latest is that the Assembly secretariat has informed Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka that he is no longer the leader of the Opposition. So, it's official now.
