Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley made it clear that Centre have no plans to scrap the newly introduced Rs 2000 currency notes at all.
As on December 10th, 2016: Old Currency Notes of Rs 500 and Rs 1000 that reached currency chests amount to Rs 12.44 lakh crore.
As on January 27th, 2017: Rs 9.921 lakh crore currency is in circulation.
As on March 3rd, 2017: Rs 12 lakh crore currency is in circulation.
Centre permitted Reserve Bank of India to conduct field trials of Rs 10 plastic notes which have a longer life span. RBI would start printing denominations of Rs 10 anytime soon.
