Update: 2019-07-23 08:47 GMT
Donald Trump offering to mediate between India and Pakistan on the Kashmir conflict led to a huge uproar. India denied Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking Trump's intervention to settle the Kashmir dispute between the two nations.

Following which, Trump Administration took damage control measures. A statement was issued by US, 'While Kashmir is a bilateral issue for both parties to discuss, the Trump Administration welcomes #Pakistan and #India sitting down and the United States stands ready to assist'.

External Affairs Minister Jaishankar maintained India will discuss all the issues with Pakistan only bilaterally and third party interference is unwarranted. 'Dialogue with Pakistan begins only after the end of cross border terrorism. The Shimla Agreement & the Lahore Declaration provide the basis to resolve all issues between India & Pakistan bilaterally,' says the Spokesperson of External Affairs Ministry.

During th meeting with Pak PM Imran Khan on Monday, Trump told he met Indian PM Modi who then asked him if he could mediate to resolve Kashmir issue. However, Indian Government didn't entertain the claim of US President.
