The Karnataka high court overturned a trial court judgment and acquitted AIADMK chief J Jayalalithaa and her three associates in an 18-year-old disproportionate assets case.

The order paves the way for her return to power as the chief minister of Tamil Nadu after she was forced to step down in September 2014.There were many rounds of discussions were happening about the judgement and lawmakers are busy with finding reasons for judgement. But what is noteworthy here is that former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister NTR bailed Amma in the case.

Yes.. As per sources HC judge KR Kumaraswamy referred the order issued by then NTR’S Govt before pronouncing his verdict.According to that  order property owned by public servants cannot be regarded as illegally earned. This GO was taken as a reference and it helped Amma to some extent.

Judge also  calculated that the percentage of disproportionate assets relative to income is 8.12%, which is less than the "permissible limit" of 10%. "It is relatively small... Therefore accused are entitled for acquittal," he wrote in his judgment.
