Opposes farm laws on Dec 8, supports on Feb 6

The ruling TRS in Telangana did another somersault on Saturday. While it has fiercely opposed the farm bills recently, it chose not to join the country-wide that was organized by the Opposition parties. The party leaders were nowhere to be seen and no pink flags were on display. Interestingly, even minister Etela Rajender, who firmly spoke against the farm bills, was conspicuous by his absence.

It may be recalled that when a nation-wide Bharat Bundh was organized on December 8 against the farm laws, the TRS was in the forefront and made it a massive success. But, on February 6, the TRS chose to stay away from the nation-wide Chakka Jam (road blockade). Even otherwise, opposition to the farm laws in Telangana was very feeble. Except for some Left party leaders, no other political party joined the protests. The farmers chose not to join the protest. As a result, the whole protest looked like a Left Party protest.

The total absence of the TRS in the road blockade shows that the party has decided not to annoy the BJP government at the Centre. Even on the issue of union budget, the TRS is completely silent. Neither KCR nor any other leader from the TRS has commented on the recent budget presented by Union Minister Nirmala Seetharaman.
