MK to be Opposition's Presidential Candidate

Update: 2017-06-23 04:52 GMT
Opposition Parties led by Congress decided not to make the election of NDA's Candidate Ram Nath Kovind as next President of India unanimous. Hence, Former Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar, who is also a Dalit & D/o Scheduled Caste icon Babu Jagjivan Ram, has been fielded as its candidate.

As many as 17 Opposition Parties have come in support of Meira Kumar. All of these parties have come together after holding several meetings.

Congress High Command had to toil hard to convince NCP Chief Sharad Pawar. Finally, He took a decision in favour of Meira Kumar.

Union Government is confident of Ram Nath Kovind garnering at least 61 percent of votes in the Presidential Polls. NDA alone have 48.6 percent of votes. The tally would only go up if included the support from regional parties AIADMK, TRS, BJD and JD(U).
