Update: 2014-10-21 13:27 GMT
Former Olympic and Paralymic sprinter Oscar Pistorius on Tuesday received a punishment of 5 years jail term for the culpable homicide of his girlfriend last February.

As per South African laws, Oscar Pistorius has to serve at least 1/6th of his sentence (10 months) before he could appeal the court to place him under house arrest for the remaining period.

During the trail, Oscar Pistorius claimed he mistook his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp for an intruder and shot her through a toiler door on Valentine's day 2013. Few days before the final verdict was announced, Pistorious told he would accept Court's decision and he wasn't afraid of imprisonment.
