Pahlaj Nihalani sacked as Censor Board Chief

Pahlaj Nihalani was sacked as the Chairman of Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). He was appointed as the head of the Censor Board in January 2015. Since then, His style of a functioning drew criticism from other board members, filmmakers and critics. There is an impression that he changed Censor Board into a Sanskari Board during his tenure.

Some of the controversial decisions of Pahlaj Nihalani include 89 cuts for 'Udta Punjab', refusal to certify 'Lipstick Under My Burkha' and multiple cuts for 'Indu Sarkar'. Even words like 'Cow' and 'Hindu India' were beeped in the docu based on Nobel laureate Amartya Sen.

The term of Pahlaj Nihalani was supposed to end in January next year. But now, Prasoon Joshi is being appointed as his replacement. This Noted Lyricist is a two-time National Award Winner (Maa in Taare Zameen Par, Bolo Na in Chittagong). He was honoured with Padma Shri in 2015. He even provided lyrics for PM Modi's Swachh Bharat Abhiyan anthem.
