Pakistan Doesn't Want to Deal with EVM Criticism like India!

Update: 2022-05-27 09:38 GMT
As a big electoral reform, the ballot boxes were replaced with electronic voting machines (EVMs). Compared to the ballot boxes, it is very easy to count the votes polled in the EVMs. However, the EVM system often faces criticism that it can be hacked and the parties can decide the election results.

In India, EVMs are often criticized by the parties in the Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled states. On one occasion, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal said that the EVMs were tampered with in Punjab polls, and with that, the AAP has to lose the earlier polls.

To see that the criticism and possible hacking will not affect the election results, our neighboring nation Pakistan took a big decision of banning EVM usage in the general elections. A bill that proposes the same was tabled and passed in the House.

A bill that bats for the reversal of the electoral reforms introduced by the previous government led by former Prime Minister of Pakistan Imran Khan was introduced in Pakistan's National Assembly the other day. The bill is titled 'The Elections (Amendment) Bill 2022'.

Pakistan Parliamentary Affairs Minister Murtaza Javed Abbasi tabled the bill and passed it with a majority vote in the lower house. Despite the Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) saying no to the proposed bill, the House approved the bill, and will be sent to the Senate to skip the usual procedure.

The criticism towards the electronic voting machines (EVMs) system for the elections in the country is getting severe with each passing day. Almost all the parties which are not happy with the BJP are using the same point to target the saffron party. Saying that the EVMs are hacked, the parties often say that if not for the EVM hacking the Bharatiya Janata Party would have not won the elections.

Looking at what is going on in the neighboring nation India, Pakistan would have thought that they don't require the EVMs and the issues and criticism the state brings. To see that EVMs won't bother them, the bill that deals with scrapping EVMs for the general elections in Pakistan was tabled and passed.
