TDP candidate for the Tirupati Lok Sabha MP bypoll, Panabaka Lakshmi, is said to be giving sleepless nights to the party leaders and workers. Though her name has been announced almost four months ago, she is yet to launch her campaign. Not just that, she is also said to be not in touch with any leader from the Tirupati region.
In fact, Chandrababu Naidu has long ago announced the candidature of Panabaka Lakshmi. However, there were rumours that she was unwilling to contest and that the candidature was forced on her. Initially, she was unavailable citing the marriage of her daughter. She told the party workers that she was busy with the works relating to the wedding function. Now, the wedding is long over and the YSRCP candidate Gurumurthy has already plunged into the campaign. Still, Panabaka Lakshmi is neither shaken nor stirred. When some TDP leaders tried to contact her, she was inaccessible. After a lot of persuasion, she is reported to have met the party workers and told them to work for the victory of the party as she is 'busy' with other works.
The TDP workers have reportedly expressed doubts to Chandrababu as to whether Panabaka Lakshmi is truly interested in contesting. As for Panabaka, it appears that the results of the recent municipal elections must have rankled her. If the same trend continues, the TDP candidate might lose by a wide margin of over 3 lakh votes. So, she must have felt that discretion was better part of valour.
