Pandemic Diaries: Smartphone Usage Among Indians Went Up Since The Pandemic!

Due to the Coronavirus outbreak followed by a series of lockdowns to tackle the situation, work from home and using smartphones became part of our life which is now, the new normal.

A recent survey stated that smartphone usage among Indians has increased amid the pandemic. Smartphone usage had gone up to 25 percent, which translates to nearly 7 hours per day.

The gadgets used for work by the working professionals and the students sitting in front of the laptops and smartphones for the online classes should be attributed to the rise of smartphone usage.

The survey titled 'Smartphones and their impact on human relationships 2020' was conducted by CyberMedia Research (CMR), while the Chinese mobile manufacturer has commissioned the study.

The outcome of the study is that, since the lockdown period, smartphone usage among Indians for various purposes like work, calling, and entertainment has increased compared to before the lockdown period.

When compared to the before lockdown period, smartphone usage for work from home has increased by 75 percent, followed by calling(63 percent) and OTT platforms surfing.

Since the lockdown, Indians reported a rise in time spent on social media and gaming. The phone usage percentage increased by 55 percent and 45 percent respectively, as per the survey.

The survey has also found out that during the lockdown period, Indians have spent more time clicking pictures and selfies.

Nearly, 2000 respondents across India from eight cities have participated in the study. The male and female participants ratio stood at 70 percent and 30 percent respectively.
