Panicky Shiv Sena Chief Calls Up PM MOdi

Update: 2020-04-30 03:52 GMT
Clearly, the Shiv Sena is both in panic as well as defiant mode. With May 28 being the deadline for Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray to get elected to any house of legislature, the party is in a quandary. Since the lockdown is in force, there cannot be any elections in the coming two months. The only way Uddhav Thackeray can get elected is through nomination by Governor to the legislative council. But, the issue of nomination is entirely in the hands of the Governor. Till now, the Governor has not responded to the resolutions passed by the ruling NCP-Congress-Shiv Sena combine.

Though the party has one month time, Shiv Sena is confused. It is afraid that the Governor might appoint others to the vacancies and deny Uddhav a chance to enter the legislative council. This means, Uddhav will be robbed off the CM's post. So confused the party is that Uddhav himself personally called up Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday and sought his cooperation. Interestingly, this call comes up barely a day after Uddhav poked Yogi Adityanath over the murder of two Sadhus in Bulandshahar. One Tuesday, he dared the UP CM and on Wednesday, he called up Modi for help. This shows the desperation in the Shiv Sena camp. It also knows that either NCP or Congress will want the CM's post if Uddhav resigns. This will make the Shiv Sena completely powerless.

So, on one hand, Shiv Sena is trying to challenge the BJP, but at the same time requesting the BJP to ensure the continuance of Shiv Sena-led Government in Maharashtra. Needless to say, the NCP and the Congress are keenly watching the Shiv Sena moves.
