Party Meets To Discuss Ladakh Ends Up Fighting Over Rahul Gandhi

Update: 2020-06-28 05:53 GMT
Recently, the Congress Party held a meeting via video-conferencing to discuss the Ladakh standoff. But, the meeting focused less on the Ladakh issue and discussed internal affairs of the party. If sources are to be believed, the meeting turned into a battle ground of the young leaders, who have the backing of Rahul Gandhi and the old guard, which has the blessing of Sonia Gandhi.

The meeting discussed more time on the question of Rahul Gandhi leading the party and several young leaders wanted him to take the lead. Meanwhile, Priyanka Vadra was reportedly unhappy with some leaders, who argued that the Congress should go soft on Modi on the Ladakh standoff. They argued that Modi is hugely popular and a majority of the Indians were fully backing him. Any opposition to Modi would be seen as lacking in patriotism. The Congress can ill afford being branded as pro-China, they said. But, Priyanka was reportedly unhappy with Jharkhand party affairs incharge RPN Singh, who said the Congress should not criticise Modi.

According to some, the real reason for priyanka's anger is the fact that Singh is a close friend of Jyotiraditya Scindia, who has now joined the BJP. She specifically targeted him suspecting his loyalty. Thus, the key meet ended without discussing the Ladakh issue.
