On the grounds of alleged gross violation of online gambling rules, Google Play store removed the Indian e-commerce payment system Paytm. Play Store's move took everyone by a surprise.
Allegedly, Google Play Store took this call after Paytm added a fantasy cricket tournament on its platform which has cricket legend, Sachin Tendulkar, as the ambassador for the tournament.
Paytm, along with the Paytm First Games app was also pulled out of the Google Play store as the fantasy cricket tournament is against the policies of the Google Play store.
Paytm was removed from the Play Store ahead of the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that will be held in the United Arab Emirates. The tournament will commence on September 19th.
Following the removal of the app from Paytm, the company took to Twitter and said that the app will be restored soon and assured that the money of the users is safe.
"Dear Paytm'ers, Paytm Android app is temporarily unavailable on Google's Play Store for new downloads or updates. It will be back very soon. All your money is completely safe, and you can continue to enjoy your Paytm app as normal," Paytm's Tweet read.
