Setback for Greenfield Capital Amaravati!

Union Environment Ministry asked AP Government to furnish complete details regarding the diversion of 19,000 hectares of forest land sought for new capital Amaravati.

AP Environment Authorities have already given clearance for the diversion of massive forest land. A petition was already filed with National Green Tribunal against this approval. Now, Union Environment Ministry seeking more details instead of issuing its nod certainly worries the AP Government.

The Ministry is of the view the project details sent by State Government is incomplete. Centre has raised several queries regarding the proposal of using a large chunk of forest land.

Former IAS and Social Activist EAS Sharma filed a petition in National Green Tribunal questioning the environmental clearance for Amaravati. He complained huge area of fertile land is being used for the AP Capital.
