Days after the Serum Institute of India CEO Adar Poonawalla claimed that he is receiving threats and pressure for Covid-19 vaccines, a writ petition was filed in the Bombay High Court seeking z+ security for Poonawalla.

In the petition, Mumbai-based advocate Datta Mane sought protection for SII CEO. Vaccines cannot be produced according to full resources if the vaccine makers are threatened with life.

Mr. Poonawalla and Serum Institute of India turned lifesavers for the population of India. So the government should protect them. z+ security should be provided for Adar Poonawalla, the writ petition said.

Stating that Poonawalla has been receiving life threats over vaccine supply, the writ petition sought directives to Pune Police Commissioner and Maharashtra DGP to file FIR against people who are issuing threats to Poonawalla.

Poonawalla is in London currently, who has been granted the Y-level security cover earlier by the Union Government following the alleged threats he received from high-level people reportedly.

Media reports claimed that, in the writ petition, the advocate said, the SII CEO has been receiving threats from the likes of Chief Ministers, business magnets, and others over the supply of Covishield vaccines.

'Threats is an understatement. The phone calls are the worst thing. The level of expectation and aggression is really unprecedented. It's overwhelming. Everyone feels they should get the vaccine. They can't understand why anyone should get it before them." Poonawalla was quoted in the writ petition.
