A PIL is being filed by an NGO in Hyderabad High Court seeking the takeover of the assets owned by former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister late Jayalalithaa.
Gareeb Guide, an NGO, moved High Court asking for take over of Jayalalithaa's assets as public property according to the provisions of Hindu Succession Act 1956.
G Bhargavi who is the President of the NGO opined that Telangana Government inaction in this issue is illegal. She stressed, 'If an individual doesn't nominate a heir to his/her property and don't have a spouse or dependents, Then the Government should take over it after his/her demise'.
In the election affidavit filed in May 2016, Jayalalithaa declared she owns assets worth Rs 113.73 crore. She have 14.5 acres of agricultural land in Medchal village, Malkajgiri district, Telangana. She also have a commercial complex in Srinagar Colony.
