Police Crackdown On Jamia Students Is like 'Jallianwala Bagh'

Update: 2019-12-17 09:47 GMT
Shiv Sena supremo, Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray has taken a dig at Citizenship Amendment Bill and compared the police attacks on Jamia Milia Islamia University's students to that of the massacre of 1919 Jallianwala Bagh.

"What happened at Jamia Millia Islamia, is like Jallianwala Bagh. Students are like a 'Yuva bomb'. So we request the central government to not do, what they are doing, with students," Uddhav said.

"This is the time to maintain peace, unity and brotherhood. It is my appeal to everyone to stay away from any sort of rumour mongering and falsehoods," he added.

The alleged brutality showcased by the police personnel did not go well with the opposition parties and the students of various universities across the nation. Leaders opposing the controversial Citizenship Amendment Bill(CAB) are increasing day by day. Uddhav is the latest leader to raise his voice against the bill.

Quashing all the criticism and rumors on the behavior of the police personnel, spokesperson of the Delhi Police, Mandeep Singh Randhawa said: "Our personnel entered the campus while chasing the violent protestors who were pelting stones, tube lights, bulbs, bottles on them, to push them back and contain the situation. No police personnel went inside the library or vandalised it. Tear gas shells may have gone inside the library since it was close to the places from where they were being fired."
