Politics Aside, University Aside, Says Telangana High Court!

Update: 2022-05-05 10:03 GMT
The historic Osmania University in Hyderabad has been in the news for the past few days with all the political reasons. While the grand old Congress party made elaborative arrangements for Rahul Gandhi's meet with the students of the university, the University Registrar said that permission for Rahul Gandhi cannot be given.

The permission refusal for Rahul Gandhi's Osmania University turned political with the Telangana wing of the Congress party smelling that the ruling Telangana Rashtra Samithi might be behind this as the party is fearing that Rahul Gandhi's visit might hinder their winning chances in the forthcoming polls.

The Congress party which had pinned high hopes on Rahul Gandhi's Hyderabad visit had filed a petition with the High Court of Telangana. The High Court had dismissed the petition saying that the University is not a political platform and the university should stay out of political issues. For this reason, the visit cannot be allowed, the HC said.

During the hearing, Justice B Vijayasen Reddy of the Telangana High Court said that Rahul Gandhi's visit to Osmania University has nothing to do with the academic issues or others that relate to the university. Other than politics, we see no other issue, the Justice maintained.

Saying that every event involving a Parliamentarian should be treated as a political event, the High Court said that the particular event should be seen from a political lens. Reacting to the arguments that political events were allowed on the campus in the past, the High Court said that the current meeting cannot be permitted.

If we look at the orders from a broader perspective, the rule applies to every university in the nation. In the recent past, we have seen how university students took the political side and took part in various protests opposing the ideas proposed by the government.

Since the inception of the university system, the students have been discussing the political developments in the nation. During the CAA and NRC protests, various universities in the nation stood in solidarity with the protestors and said that they will not let the controversial policies get implemented.
