The move to organize a 'Beef Festival' at the Osmania University campus in Hyderabad on December 10th, on the eve of International Human Rights Day, triggered an uproar. Organisers of Beef Festival claim it as an attempt to convey the message that they won't tolerate restrictions imposed on dietary habits by Hindutva Outfits.
Raja Singh, BJP MLA representing Goshamahal Assembly segment, pledged to stop the 'Beef Festival' by saying cow is a sacred animal for millions of people in the country. He sent a memorandum to OU Vice Chancellor stating if permission was granted for 'Beef Festival' then an event projecting worship of cow should also be allowed in the campus. He has gone to the extent of declaring 'Kill to protect Cows' and demanded resignation of Telangana BJP President Kishan Reddy for speaking in favor of Beef Festival.
Meanwhile, A Group of Students now declare they have plans to organize a 'Pork Festival' on December 10th in protest against the 'Beef Festival' held by another Group of Students. A round table conference is expected to take place between Organisations & Political Parties on the issue. As the situation turned tense, Security at Osmania Campus has been tightened by the Police Department.
