Keeping his word President Ram Nath Kovind has rejected the mercy petition that was filed by Pawan Kumar Gupta, one of the four convicts in the brutal Delhi gangrape and murder case which was dubbed as Nirbhaya by the media. â
All the four convicts, in this case, were awarded death sentence for the barbaric incident of Nirbhaya. The convicts have been making use of their legal remedies ever since they were awarded the death sentence.
Hours after his curative petition was dismissed by the Supreme Court, Pawan Kumar had filed a mercy petition before the President of India. The mercy petition being rejected resulted in further delay in the hanging of the convicts in the case.
Pawan was the last convict in the case who had moved the Supreme Court with the curative plea, which is the final judicial remedy given to a person. Earlier the mercy petition filed by three other convicts Mukesh, Vinay, and Akshay were rejected by the President.
