Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Sunday said the government would privatise state-owned companies in non-strategic sectors as a part of a new coherent Public Sector Enterprises Policy(CPSEs).
Apart from private sector companies, at least one and a maximum of four public sector enterprise will be notified under the policy said Nirmala Sitharaman.
Sitharaman said these while she was announcing the fifth and last tranche of the Rs 20 lakh crore stimulus package.
While coming to the other sectors, she said the privatisation will depend on the feasibility.
"PSEs will continue to play an important role in defined areas. We need a coherent policy because sometimes you open up some sectors in piecemeal... Now we shall define the areas... where their presence will be impactfully felt," Sitharaman said.
