Scams worth thousands of crores is not at all new to India. Right from the Bofors to the 2G we have seen it all. The latest scam came out as Punjab National Bank filed a complaint with the Investigative agencies accusing diamond jewelry businessman Nirav Modi of financial fraud worth Rs.11,400.
There were already reports in the media that Nirav Modi escaped from India to Switzerland on January 1 itself fearing the investigation. Several interesting details are emerging after the scam broke out. Nirav Modi is the owner of Firestar Diamond Pvt. Ltd. He also owns an international brand with his own name 'Nirav Modi' with a tagline 'Haute Diamantaire' which is popular across international celebrities that sells branded jewelry.
Hollywood heroines and models like Kate Winslet, Dakota Johnson and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley were sizzled in Nirav Modi jewelry on the red carpets in the past. Apart from Hollywood stars, several Bollywood heroines have an association with Nirav Modi. His clientele in Bollywood includes Kareena Kapoor Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Jacqueline Fernandez, Sonam Kapoor, Lisa Haydon etc.
Priyanka Chopra is also associated with Nirav Modi brand as a brand ambassador. After the scam broke out, Priyanka Chopra released a statement which reads "She is currently seeking a legal opinion with respect to terminating her contract with the brand in light of allegations of financial fraud against Nirav Modi."
