Rape Of Minor Is Rape, Not Rape Of Married Woman!

Update: 2019-06-10 10:39 GMT
UP Minister Upendra Tiwari stirred a controversy by saying rape has its nature by differentiating sexual assault of a minor and married woman. He opined, 'If a minor is raped, Then we consider it as a rape. If a Married Woman in the age group of 30 to 35 is raped, Then the matter is different'.

Upendra Tiwari explained why he made such a comment - 'There were many instances of people making rape allegations after being in a live-in relationship for few years'.

The comments of the Minister arrived when the murder of a two-year-old girl in Aligarh made headlines. However, Cops ruled out the possibility of rape in this case.

In India, Rape is among the Top 5 Crimes against Women. Majority of the Accused in the rape cases are friends- co-workers- neighbours- relatives and persons who are well-known to the Victims. Marital Rape isn't a criminal offence in India.
