Rashid Khan turns down Captaincy offer, says it will affect his performance

The Afghanistan cricket board had announced Hashmatullah Shahidi as the skipper to lead the team in the 50-over format and the longer format of the game earlier this week.

While the board is on a hunt to name the captain for the shorter format of the game, young bowler Rashid Khan was asked to lead the game, but he declined.

The reason to decline the captainship is, it might impact my performance as a bowler. I am better as a player, but not as a player. I am clear on this, Rashid Khan said.

"I am very much clear in my mind that I am better off as a player. I am good in the role as vice-captain and help the captain wherever I am needed. It's better for me that I stay away from this position," the Right-arm leg-break bowler said.

Rashid Khan is in his prime form, be it international cricket or the teams he represents in the franchise cricket like IPL, Australia's Big Bash League, Pakistan Super League, and other leagues.

So far, Rashid Khan had led the team in 2 Tests, 7 ODIs, and 7 T20Is. Under his captaincy, Afghanistan emerged victoriously in one test, one ODI, and 4 T2oIs.
