RBI planned for Rs 5,000 & Rs 10,000 Notes

Union Finance Minister Arun Jaitley reveals Reserve Bank of India (RBI) suggested introduction of currency notes of Rs 5000 and Rs 10000 denominations to low the inflation. 'However, Government didn't approve the proposal but agreed to bring Rs 2000 notes,' he shares during an interview to a News Channel.

Arun Jaitley informs Rs 300 crore have been deposited in Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan accounts in the past three days. He adds, The chairperson of SBI has passed this information to the Centre.

Finance Minister admits receiving proposals from Farmers, Temples, Tea Plantation Workers to exempt them from Rs 2.5 lakh cap imposed on the deposits.

Responding to the allegations that BJP leaders knew about note ban in advance, Arun Jaitley clarified no one else were aware of the decision except Prime Minister, Finance Minister and Couple of key officials in Finance Department.
